The Unit Coordinator for the Day Hospital/Outpatient Surgery is responsible for performing receptionist duties in a manner that is customer and patient oriented. This role involves organizing patient records, which includes the assembly of charts, physician orders, admissions, transfers, and discharge duties. The coordinator will identify and communicate appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring that all information is handled with confidentiality and discretion. Additionally, the position requires an understanding of the appropriate storage and safety of medications, including large volume IVs, alcohol, saline, and medications in prepackaged kits. The Unit Coordinator will also recognize potential or real problems as they arise, present workable solutions, and participate in their implementation as a contributing member of the healthcare team. Other responsibilities include answering and directing incoming calls, sorting and distributing mail/faxes, assisting in managing patient flow for the unit, and performing bed coordination and discharge duties as assigned.
