Unit Clerk
About The Position
The Unit Cler performs clerical functions necessary for the operation of a nursing unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Activities are related to providing assistance to customers (nursing staff, physicians, patients and families, etc.) including telecommunication, clerical and environmental duties. Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent thereof.
- Computer experience

- Previous background in healthcare or secretarial science highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Enter all physician orders in the computer, except medication orders.
- Utilize effective verbal communication skills including use of telephone.
- In collaboration with nurse manager, monitor supplies to ensure availability.
- Maintain all medical records on the unit.
- Coordinate all patient movement on and off the unit.
- Fulfill routine tasks based on unit need.
- Review and process Advanced Directive paperwork as indicated.
- Provide input into efforts to continuously improve operation of the unit.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Exposure Control Manual regarding: Standard Precautions, Bloodborne Pathogen, Disposal of Needles, Syringes and Sharps, Cleanup Procedures for blood and body fluid spills, storage, handling and disposal of medical waste.
