About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Operations, the Unit Clerk will perform a variety of front office physician duties. This role involves working the reception desk, answering phones, greeting and communicating with patients, visitors, and providers. Key responsibilities include scheduling, cancelling, and rescheduling patient appointments, making appointment reminder telephone calls, and performing insurance verification and verification of patient demographics. The Unit Clerk is also responsible for filing and retrieving medical records/files, copying and faxing duties, collecting co-pays and cash from patients, obtaining authorization on credit cards, and entering charges, payments, and balancing the day in the computer system. The position requires adherence to the Code of Conduct, Mission Statement, and Model MRHS values/behaviors, as well as understanding and adhering to all physician services procedures. The Unit Clerk may also be requested to train peers and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Reaching and grasping with arms and hands
  • Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy
  • Using a keyboard to enter or transform words or data
  • Hearing in normal and soft tones
  • Ability to read and understand written English words and sentences
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English words and sentences
  • Ability to understand spoken English words and sentences
  • Ability to communicate with others by telephone and e-mail
  • Understanding, supporting and promoting the organizational values inherent in the philosophy of Mena Regional Health System
  • Performing job duties in a manner which demonstrates the values of Mena Regional Health System and its commitment to customer service
  • Ability to use good judgment with good computer skills
  • Requires a high degree of tact, discretion, accuracy and confidentiality in dealing within the hospital as well as community
