  • Perform general secretarial receptionist and clerical duties in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensure adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards.
  • Prepare charts for patients ensuring inclusion and completion of necessary documents.
  • Prepare Chart labels using color code.
  • Correctly maintain the daily census sheet.
  • Prepare Nursing Kardex Cards recording patient information.
  • Transcribe the Physician's Orders in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare and route patient request slips as necessary.
  • Transcribe information from work sheets to patient chart as necessary.
  • Answer telephone and intercom accurately relaying messages.
  • Secure records from previous admissions and prepare charts for transfer or dismissal.
  • List new admissions/discharges and changes on diet sheet.
  • Maintain an adequate stock of supplies and forms.
  • Assist physicians as needed and within scope of responsibility.
  • Greet patients and visitors.
  • Communicate reports, new orders, and messages to appropriate team members.
  • Secure needed services as directed by Nurse Manager.
  • Assist with room assignments.
  • Maintain the Nurses' Station in a neat, orderly manner.
  • Participate in continuing education and committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, needed, requested or required.
  • Education level equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.
  • Must have and maintain currency in BLS-CPR.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
  • One year experience as a ward clerk, unit clerk, or medical office secretary is preferred.
