About The Position

Under the supervision of a professional nurse, performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations, tends to the nursing station and central telemetry station.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English language in an understandable manner
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills
  • BLS certification within 6 months of hire
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family, visitors, and the public
  • Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with members of the health care team, patients and visitors using oral and written means and equipment such as the telephone and intercom.
  • Labels, assembles, completes, and processes patient’s charts as indicated.
  • Keeps patient records accurately identified.
  • Performs clerical duties related to procedures such as admission, discharge, transfer and death.
  • Attends daily utilization review (UR).
  • Checks charts and removes nonpermanent reports when permanent reports are obtained.
  • Disassembles discharged patient records. Scans documents into EMR.
  • Orders supplies to maintain inventory of the unit’s equipment stock and supplies. Assists with receiving, distributing, and sorting supplies brought to the unit. Prepares requisitions and reports for maintenance repairs.
  • Copies and faxes medical records/information as requested.
  • Confirms new diet orders and/or diet changes with the dietary department.
  • Schedules patient's follow-up appointments as requested.
  • Maintains daily census reports.
  • Delivers mail, flowers, etc. as necessary; directs visitors to patient rooms office areas, etc. as necessary.
  • Demonstrates skill and accuracy in hospital computer application.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe working environment in both patient care and clerical areas.
  • As a member of the health team will maintain harmonious relationships with unit and co-workers providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality patient care.
  • Attends 75% of Staff Meetings
  • Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients and families.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient/staff information.
  • Demonstrates skill and accuracy in obtaining patient admit information and registering patients in the Emergency Department and Obstetrics Department.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
