About The Position

The Unit Clerk Certified Nursing Assistant position at Mercy Walworth Medical Center involves working in the Medical Surgical Unit during night shifts. The unit features 25 single bed rooms and typically maintains a patient ratio of 4 to 5 patients per nurse, depending on patient acuity. The facility has 24/7 Hospitalists and ED physicians on-site, along with shift coordinators and resource nurses available at night. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including processing orders, maintaining medical records, and providing patient care as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CNA program. Advanced CNA program preferred.
  • Completion of a Unit Clerk course or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Nursing Assistant Certification in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Processes orders and patient charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Answers the telephone and call lights in an appropriate and timely manner, providing information or relaying messages to patients and staff.
  • Directs visitors to patients' rooms.
  • Maintains medical records of current patients.
  • Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking, and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures according to CNA job duties and expectations.
  • Documents care provided according to standards.
  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
  • Floats to various units based on identified needs.
  • Participates in department and unit performance improvement activities.
  • Verifies accuracy of charges entered.
  • Facilitates a welcoming environment assisting with visitor wayfinding.
  • Assembles patient folders and charts for the unit.
