Job Summary: Greets and directs visitors. Prepares and maintains medical records. Responds to patient requests for assistance. Provides information to patients, families, and physicians. Provides other clerical support to nursing team as required. Uses organizational skills to keep unit running smoothly and uses prioritization skills to meet deadlines as indicated. Provides guidance to a work team in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Leads department operations including scheduling and workflow coordination.

Requirements

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Three years' relevant experience: Preferred
  • One year's experience in a hospital or medical office setting: Preferred
  • Unit Secretary training course: Preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) Health Care Provider certification: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Processes orders and assists unit visitors and callers.
  • Refers patients requiring services to outside facilities.
  • Performs data collection and maintains data on an ongoing basis.
  • Ascertains flow of patients admission/transfers.
  • Assists in scheduling patient procedures.
  • Assembles charts.
  • Participates in regulatory environmental compliance duties, clearing hallways and calling for equipment/pick-up as needed.
  • Applies substantial knowledge and experience to perform a wide range of advanced activities and/or determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals; serves as working supervisor for team or work group.
  • Provides guidance to staff within the latitude of established work area and policies.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
