About The Position

The Unit Assistant role at Northeast Georgia Health System involves providing a variety of support services within the ICU/CCU units. The Unit Assistant will also perform patient care tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and patient care standards.

Requirements

• Current Georgia Certified Nursing Assistant or completion of Fundamentals of Nursing Course if a nursing student.
• High school diploma or GED with reading, writing, and math skills at a 10th grade level or higher.
• No previous experience required; on-the-job training provided.
• Ability to work effectively with other departments and the general public.
• Good interpersonal skills and adaptability in changing situations.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a nursing assistant or unit aide is desirable.
• Typing skills preferred but not required.
• Ability to operate the electronic medical record (EMR).

Responsibilities

• Provides clerical support by maintaining patient records and unit supplies.
• Serves as a facilitator for communications within the assigned area.
• Performs patient care tasks within the defined scope of practice.
• Monitors and reports basic patient physiological data such as vital signs and fluid intake/output.
• Organizes patient care and sets appropriate priorities based on physician and nursing orders.
• Makes frequent rounds to patient rooms and responds to patient call lights promptly.
• Explains procedures or care to patients prior to implementation.
• Accurately records patient data and forwards it to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
• Ensures patient safety by adhering to hygiene and safety protocols.
• Prepares rooms for new admissions and orients patients and families to the unit.
