About The Position

The Unit Assistant II works under the supervision of the Department Manager/Charge Nurse in the Heart Center. This role involves two primary functions: monitoring telemetry patients at the Central Monitoring Station and managing clerical duties associated with patient records on a Clinical Nursing unit. The Unit Assistant II must maintain competency in both functions and may float within unit groupings or outside of their job class as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The position requires effective communication skills and the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately to all age groups served by Salinas Valley Health.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Required to attend and successfully pass the EKG Rhythm recognition course and test.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant or a Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.
  • One year experience in an acute care facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors telemetry patient's cardiac rhythm, blood pressure, SpO2, and respiratory rate while on telemetry/cardiac monitoring.
  • Prints rhythm strips every 4 hours for Registered Nurse Interpretation and for RN review on any critical 'Red' alarm.
  • Maintains patient records.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining department supplies.
  • Utilizes positive communication skills to effect conflict resolution and teamwork.
  • Maintains and improves organization and operations of nursing stations.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
  • Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.
  • Actively participates in achieving departmental goals.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac monitor guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate of $28.76 - $31.70.
