About The Position

Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system.

Requirements

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience
  • TCEQ Class C Water license OR Class I Wastewater Collection license required
  • Valid Texas Class A CDL required at time of hire
  • Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class A driver's license within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Plans crews' daily assignments
  • Lead and train crews to install, repair and maintain water distribution and wastewater collections systems.
  • Operate back hoe and other large excavation equipment.
  • Train employees for CDL and proper equipment operation.
  • Ensure proper dosing and disinfection of water mains and repair material.
  • Review, interpret, and train crew members on maps, plans, and drawings.
  • Create permits for street cuts and confined space entry, ensure traffic control plans, trench safety and worksite safety practices are followed.
  • Coordinate installation of well pointed and by-pass pumps.
  • Create work orders, log time, material, equipment, and work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Provide customer service while performing responsibilities.
  • Coordinate activities on the job site with engineers, construction inspectors, other City departments, and external customers.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
