The Union Organizer position at SEIU United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW) is a full-time role based in San Diego, CA, aimed at empowering and organizing janitorial workers throughout the region. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the San Diego Janitorial Division Coordinator and will be integral to the SD Janitorial Division, which represents over 45,000 property service workers across California. This role is pivotal in enforcing contracts, engaging members, and addressing broader social and political issues affecting the communities served by the union. The Union Organizer will be responsible for organizing workers, identifying workplace issues, and executing worksite actions to address these challenges. This includes participating in contract negotiations and coordinated campaigns, planning and mobilizing for worksite actions, union events, and marches. The organizer will conduct one-on-one meetings, site visits, and lead member-led committee meetings to foster engagement and activism among union members. Additionally, the role requires maintaining a detailed database of worksites and individual workers, effectively communicating with members and employers to resolve disputes, and preparing and managing work plans and records. The position demands a strong commitment to social and economic justice, with a focus on improving the lives of working people. The ideal candidate will have experience in labor organizing, public policy, or non-profit work, and will possess excellent interpersonal skills to thrive in a fast-paced and diverse team environment. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required, as is the ability to travel within California and work extended hours as needed.
