Operating Engineer - JLL What this job involves: Lead the sophisticated operation of critical building systems including Building Automation Systems (BAS), Fire Alarm Systems (FAS), and chiller plants to ensure optimal facility performance and safety. This advanced engineering role combines technical mastery with operational leadership, maintaining JLL's high standards for building performance while mentoring maintenance teams. You will serve as the primary technical authority responsible for complex mechanical systems, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional client satisfaction across our premier facilities. What your day-to-day will look like: Operate and monitor building systems via Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Fire Alarm Systems (FAS) with expert chiller plant operation Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting and repair on critical building systems and base building equipment Execute preventative maintenance programs with minimal disruption to building services while supervising and delegating to qualified maintenance staff Respond to emergency work orders and manage daily building operations to ensure continuous facility performance Order specialized parts and equipment, maintain technical inventory, and oversee installation of new systems and facilities Complete monthly safety training requirements and ensure strict compliance with hazardous materials policies Conduct comprehensive system checks and prepare detailed operational reports

Requirements

  • High school diploma with two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC systems
  • Minimum four years of experience in facility/plant engineering maintenance and operations
  • Journeyman level operating engineer experience with advanced building automation systems and life safety systems expertise
  • Universal HVAC License for refrigeration system operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance systems
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills for coordination with all organizational levels and external engineering contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to train staff in proper tool usage while maintaining professional standards

Nice To Haves

  • Boilers license for steam and heating system operation
  • Advanced experience with HVAC, fluid handling/pumping, fluid filtering, and complex mechanical systems
  • Welding certification and electrical systems engineering background
  • Expertise in building automation programming and life safety system management
  • Leadership experience in mentoring and developing maintenance teams
  • Specialized knowledge of hazardous materials handling and environmental compliance
