About The Position

The Diesel Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role requires diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and completing repairs in a timely manner to support fleet reliability and minimize downtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a formal diesel technology or automotive program from a technical school or community college is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a diesel technician or in a similar role within the automotive industry.
  • Experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proven track record of performing routine maintenance and inspections on diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, including fuel injection, turbocharging, and exhaust systems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to diesel engine maintenance and repair.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed inspections of diesel engines, vehicles, and equipment to identify mechanical or electrical issues.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and system inspections.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and technical manuals.
  • Repair or replace engine components, fuel systems, electrical systems, braking systems, and other mechanical parts.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repair work for fleet management and compliance purposes.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient shop operations and minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Follow all union guidelines, workplace policies, and safety regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Stay current with diesel technology, equipment updates, and industry best practices through training and professional development.
  • Communicate repair findings and maintenance recommendations clearly to supervisors or fleet managers.
  • Ensure all work is completed according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
