About The Position

A union bartender prepares and serves alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages, maintains a clean, organized bar, and provides high-quality customer service, often under a collective bargaining agreement ensuring better job security, benefits, and structured work rules . Key responsibilities include managing inventory, checking IDs, and enforcing safety regulations in high-volume environments.

Requirements

  • Experience: Proven bartending experience, often requiring 1+ years in a high-volume setting.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of mixology, spirits, and beverage recipes.
  • Licensing: State-mandated alcohol server training (e.g., TIPS or SERVSAFE).
  • Skills: Exceptional customer service, communication, multitasking abilities, and physical stamina for standing/lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Beverage Service: Mix, garnish, and serve drinks according to standardized recipes, ensuring quality and speed.
  • Customer Interaction: Greet patrons, take orders, make recommendations, and handle payments (cash/POS) accurately.
  • Bar Maintenance: Maintain a clean, sanitized, and fully stocked bar area, including washing glassware and managing inventory.
  • Compliance & Safety: Check IDs for legal drinking age, adhere to safety regulations, and refuse service to intoxicated patrons.
  • Union Standards: Follow, and potentially help enforce, policies set by the collective bargaining agreement regarding working conditions, shifts, and safety.
