About The Position

The UniSource Gas Safety Specialist I, II serves as the primary safety resource to the Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and Employees. This position actively oversees, manages, and leads the development and implementation of safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives that support employees in preventing injury. The role ensures compliance with all applicable company, local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and standards concerning safety and health. Additionally, the position assists the UNSG Operations group in all aspects of safety training development and presentation, collaborating with the Corporate Safety and Environmental teams to ensure alignment with the Corporate Safety Strategy and implementation of UNS safety initiatives. As the primary safety resource at UNSG, this position will serve as a safety coach, trainer, and mentor for all employees and members of the leadership team.

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ACC, NESC, NEC regulations.
• Ability to present to large groups of employees.
• Ability to collaborate in a complex organization.
• Ability to influence and mentor safety leadership and employee engagement.
• Ability to investigate incidents and identify causal factors.
• Ability to conduct evaluations in various terrains at all hours.
• Ability to perform job functions while travelling and working remotely.
• Effective communication skills with diverse groups.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strongly prefer previous safety specialist experience in a utility environment.

Nice To Haves

• OSHA Certification.
• A bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
• 5+ years of relevant safety experience or designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Responsibilities

• Oversees and manages all aspects of internal, corporate and external safety training, compliance, and documentation.
• Provide safety, environmental and health consultation services to employees and leaders.
• Provide guidance and coaching to members of the Leadership team on effective safety leadership.
• Promote the concepts of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) in the organization.
• Develops and presents new employee safety orientation programs.
• Work with the Leadership team to engage employees in safety processes and initiatives.
• Assist leadership and employees in identifying, mitigating and controlling hazards.
• Oversee and lead UNS Gas Environmental Safety requirements.
• Administer and monitor employee hygiene safety requirements including SCBA, Fit Testing and PPE.
• Understand and promote the UNS safety strategy.
• Collaborate with UNS Corporate Safety on safety issues.
• Responsible for the oversight and management of the UNS Gas Safety Manual.
• Implement policies and procedures for safety and health compliance.
• Coordinate audits of health and safety programs.
• Keep informed on changes in health and safety regulations.
• Develop training on relevant safety and health issues.
• Promote communication programs for employee awareness of safety issues.
• Serve as a technical consultant on safety, environmental and health issues.
• Facilitate incident investigations and develop detailed reports.
• Facilitate Learning Teams to promote organizational learning.
• Provide feedback to employees on safety issues.
• Develop safety meeting material and present as needed.
• Participate in Safety Process Analysis within UNS.
• Coordinate departmental activities with other areas of the Company.
• Support Public Education programs related to safety.
• Monitor literature affecting the utility industry.
• Assist in evaluation and purchase of safety materials and tools.
