About The Position

The Underwriting Trainee position at AXIS Capital is designed to develop future underwriters through a structured training program. Trainees will gain hands-on experience and critical underwriting skills by working closely with underwriters, actuaries, and claims representatives. The role emphasizes building effective relationships with peers, customers, and brokers, and involves progressing through three levels of training to ultimately qualify for an underwriter position.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Business Administration, Finance and Accounting, Economics, Marketing, or Liberal Arts with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated analytical skills and business acumen.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications.

Responsibilities

• Analyze potential and existing customers by gathering and reviewing information on financial condition, loss and exposure history.
• Assess economic or climatic trends and geographic acceptability of risks.
• Under moderate supervision, assess risk and set rates & coverage levels.
• Understand AXIS' financial strength rating and its standing among peers.
• Review and develop knowledge of the unit's forms and basic endorsements.
• Participate in the unit's Peer Reviews.
• Prepare and present risk for Peer Review.
• Accompany underwriters in broker meetings.
