Applicants beyond fifty (50) miles may still be considered.Job SummaryAs an Underwriting SME for our Guidewire conversion, you will serve as the primary authority on commercial lines products, workflows, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with IT, Business Analysts, and Configuration Developers to translate complex underwriting rules into functional system requirements. Your goal is to optimize the PolicyCenter environment to support profitable growth, streamline the renewal/new business lifecycle, and ensure a seamless transition from legacy systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in a business-related field of study.
  • Completion of or actively pursuing CPCU or other relevant insurance designation.
  • Seven years of Commercial Underwriting experience in property/casualty, auto, and/or Workers Compensation lines of business, preferably including supervisory/management experience.
  • Technical expertise in commercial risk selection and pricing. Knowledge of management information and business systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated presentation skills. Analytical thinking skills to make timely, appropriate decisions and recommendations after reviewing all relevant information. Ability to successfully interact with the Agency Force to grow business while at the same time maintaining underwriting discipline. Ability to read and interpret policy contract language. Broad-based working knowledge of relevant insurance laws and statutes; the contract issue process, computer systems, competitor’s products and marketing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Define and document complex commercial underwriting rules, appetite, and authority limits for integration into the Guidewire Product Model.
  • Lead "Train-the-Trainer" sessions and provide high-level guidance on how commercial forms, endorsements, and rating logic should behave within the new platform.
  • Collaborate with the technical team during Inception and Elaboration phases to map legacy data fields to Guidewire’s data architecture.
  • Design "To-Be" underwriting workflows that leverage Guidewire’s automation capabilities (e.g., straight-through processing for small commercial or automated referrals for middle-market).
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate manual workarounds currently present in legacy systems.
  • Validate that the Underwriter Desktop UI/UX is intuitive and aligns with the daily needs of the production team.
  • Develop and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scripts to ensure system outputs (quotes, policies, and documents) meet technical and regulatory standards.
  • Perform "Side-by-Side" testing to compare legacy system rating outputs against Guidewire results to ensure actuarial precision.
  • Review and approve the logic for automated correspondence and policy issuance documents.
  • Serve as a champion for the new system, helping field underwriters and agents navigate the transition from legacy processes.
  • Provide expert insight into "Day 1" vs. "Day 2" priorities, ensuring that the most critical underwriting tools are functional at launch.
