About The Position

We believe life insurance innovation must happen in the context of sound underwriting decisions. The Underwriting Manager will lead a team of internal and external case underwriters, as well collaborate with engineering, design, data science, actuarial, and marketing as we design new marketing campaigns, product features, and data models to help users have the most delightful experience possible. Bring your expertise as an underwriter to cross-functional Ladder work teams.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of people leadership experience
  • 8+ years of life insurance underwriting experience at a leading carrier or reinsurer.
  • Experience in developing underwriting guidelines and programs.
  • Demonstrated interest in innovation and better serving end users.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with accelerated underwriting and third-party evidence providers is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate medical and personal history on life insurance applications up to $8 million face amount.
  • Participate in development of the Underwriting team members.
  • Collaborate with the Underwriting Audit team to enhance Underwriting Guidelines and clearly communicate audit finding feedback to the Underwriting team.
  • Work closely with the Customer Experience and Compliance teams to answer underwriting related questions and share underwriting knowledge.
  • Be comfortable both underwriting and applying your knowledge to systems and processes.
  • Report to the Head of Underwriting.
