About The Position

The Assistant Underwriting Intern at Burns & Wilcox is a 12-week summer internship designed for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Business, Finance, or a related field. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the specialty insurance industry, focusing on developing business acumen, communication, and leadership skills. Interns will work closely with executive leadership and fellow interns, gaining valuable insights into various underwriting teams and participating in real-world projects.

Requirements

• Enrolled as an undergraduate at an accredited university, actively pursuing a degree in Risk Management and Insurance (strongly preferred), Business, Finance, or another relevant field.
• Expected graduation in December 2025 or May 2026.
• Previous internship experience is preferred.
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Work 40 hours per week, with four days in the office and one day remote.
• Gain experience in insurance underwriting teams, including commercial, personal, environmental, or professional lines.
• Underwrite and cross-sell across the department's renewal portfolio and new business submissions.
• Participate in agent marketing calls.
• Engage in insurance policy renewals.
• Update new business and renewals in Microsoft Excel.
• Determine which program or market best meets the needs of agency clients.
• Communicate loss notices and policy changes.
• Work alongside senior leaders on special projects and attend client meetings.
