About The Position

Erie Insurance is offering an opportunity to join our Future Focus Internship Program as an Underwriting Intern. This internship is designed to provide college students with professional experience in a challenging and competitive setting. Interns will be welcomed as part of the ERIE family and will receive a comprehensive internship experience that includes educational, developmental, professional, social, and networking opportunities. The program is highly esteemed within the organization, providing multiple opportunities for socializing with high-level leaders, including the President and CEO. The internship will start on either May 11th or May 18th, 2026, and will conclude on August 7th, 2026.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a four-year degree or master's degree program full-time.
  • Completion of sophomore year in a relevant field is required.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is highly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform functional duties for the assigned division under close supervision.
  • Conduct research and gather information to assist in creating presentations as required.
  • Analyze data and report findings.
  • Verify and enter data into appropriate systems, updating electronic files as necessary.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support as needed.
  • Complete special projects as required.
  • Be involved in risk selection, analyzing risk, risk management, decision making, account/portfolio management, and managing business relationships.
  • Gain hands-on project experience surrounding investigations on emerging commercial and personal lines trends and data analysis of existing portfolio.
  • Collaborate between Underwriting and Risk Control to develop recommendations for underwriting new and existing business and improving risk management techniques for ERIE's portfolio.
  • Gain shadowing opportunities that allow for exhibition of underwriting and independent agent interaction and decision-making process, as well as experience with new business applications, re-underwriting analysis, and system utilization.
  • Present to upper management on underwriting project topics and the development of product and coverage recommendations for the underwriting department.
