About The Position

As a participant in the Shōrai Program, you will be expected to apply both creative and analytical thinking, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and make informed decisions utilizing the technical expertise gained during the program. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided by our highly experienced underwriters and functional leaders across the organization. The three-year educational and developmental framework of the program also offers an excellent opportunity to launch your career. Participants will gain exposure to key areas including Corporate Underwriting, the Global Business Unit (GBU), and Highly Protected Risk (HPR) departments. Beyond daily responsibilities, there will be customized short- and long-term development plans, designed to deepen your underwriting knowledge through industry-recognized coursework and certifications. To ensure thorough integration into TMA’s customer-focused culture and to provide insight into essential roles within the Underwriting unit, participants will complete a rotation to another TMA branch office at the midpoint of the program. This experience will facilitate relationship-building with colleagues and contribute to expanding your understanding of TMA's operations. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive placement offers aligned with the evolving business needs of TMA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Highly competitive GPA and academic performance (proven experience as a high performer)
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to work independently
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to work across multiple locations throughout the program

Responsibilities

  • Works directly with Underwriting Leadership, Underwriters and Underwriting Analysts as directed to understand project concept, objectives and approach.
  • Takes assigned project(s) from original concept through final implementation with direction from underwriting unit owners.
  • Creates and maintains project schedules by developing project plans and specifications.
  • Become a user expert on Policy Decisions (Majesco), OnBase, TED, Sales Force, Loss Control 360 and other system applications as necessary.
  • Assists in the development of effective tools for Underwriting Management and Underwriters to enhance the ability to effectively manage the portfolio.
  • Collaborate/liaise with other internal business units in developing reports, data management/reporting tools and improve workflows and processes.
  • Review various sections of Underwriting guides and work with FUW and CUW on any suggested changes
  • Responsible for complying with proper internal controls as necessary to conduct job functions and/or carry out responsibilities and/or administrative activities at Company.
  • Manage a book of assigned accounts to develop foundational underwriting skills and gain experience with systems and processes to facilitate the creation of operational efficiencies within the Underwriting Department.
  • Analyzes and evaluates exposures, determines and recommends underwriting actions, determines appropriate pricing and terms and identifies/refers alternatives within scope of authority and with Manager guidance.
  • Completes all file documentation and rating schedules in compliance with all internal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains effective communication and rapport with Client Solutions, insureds (as applicable), producers, other departments, and unit staff members.
  • Coordinates, with assistance as needed, account activities between various other departments, underwriters, account executive officers and producers within the scope of account ownership and authority.
  • Ad Hoc project work in a variety of vertical initiatives
  • Stays current with market intelligence on an ongoing basis.
