About The Position
biBERK, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is seeking to hire an Underwriting Associate in our Commercial Underwriting Unit. This position is ideal for individuals looking to start a career in the commercial insurance industry, as it provides a comprehensive opportunity to learn how to evaluate risks associated with various insurance policies, including Workers' Compensation, Businessowners', Commercial Auto, Professional Liability, and Umbrella policies for small businesses. The role is designed for both entry-level candidates and those with experience, making it accessible to a wide range of applicants. The Underwriting Associate will work in a hybrid environment, requiring both in-office and remote work in either Wilkes Barre, PA or Omaha, NE. The standard working hours for this position are from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. As an individual contributor role, there are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. The successful candidate will utilize company underwriting criteria to evaluate risks for various lines of business, perform independent verification of insured operations, review and process change requests on in-force policies, and evaluate in-force policies at renewal. Additionally, the Underwriting Associate will participate in Underwriting Training for new products, directives, and processes, and may be assigned to various projects as needed. This role requires strong investigative skills, excellent communication and customer service abilities, and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced team environment. Candidates should possess excellent time management skills and adaptability to changes in technology, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory conditions. A Bachelor's degree or an Associate's degree with a strong score on the Wonderlic test is required, while prior experience in underwriting is a plus but not mandatory. Physical requirements include prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as data entry tasks.
