About The Position

Tokio Marine HCC - Public Risk Group, a member of the Tokio Marine group of companies, is a market leader in providing specialized insurance products for municipal entities. We cover counties, cities, townships, villages, police department, prisons, fire departments and more. We serve the growing insurance and risk management needs of small to medium-sized governmental entities and provide property and casualty insurance coverages in multiple states. Hybrid Work Schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days work from home) or Remote (Remote eligibility dependent on candidate location) Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Underwriting Assistant to support our First Fire program. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in supporting the First Fire program team, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring timely, high-quality service to internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree preferred, or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of underwriting or operations support experience.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Demonstrates initiative, attention to detail, and reliability in meeting deadlines.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment and contributes to team success.

Nice To Haves

  • Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update departmental records, ensuring the accuracy of policy details, endorsements, invoices, broker data, and related documentation.
  • Support the underwriting cycle by preparing and assembling quotes, renewals, and policies for distribution.
  • Handle correspondence—such as quote letters, memorandums, declinations, and invoices—with professionalism and precision.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for brokers, clients, and internal departments.
  • Manage inbound and outbound phone calls, respond to inquiries, and facilitate clear communication across teams to ensure excellent service and responsiveness.
  • Work closely with underwriting, claims, compliance, and operations teams to forward files, track requests, and support the flow of information throughout the underwriting process.
  • Contribute to refining daily workflows by identifying opportunities for process enhancements.
  • Recommend and assist with implementing improvements to streamline documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping practices.
  • Build your insurance industry knowledge through exposure to core underwriting functions such as renewal preparation and loss analysis under the direction of an underwriter.
