About The Position

Overview Identifies and evaluates risks, prices, and determines policy terms and conditions in accordance with Company guidelines. What will you do? UNDERWRITING ACTIVITIES: Reviews submissions, endorsement request and/or renewal policies from agents for acceptability prior to quoting. Follows up with agent or broker for additional information, as necessary. Determines proper classification of risks and uses company software to rate risks. Identifies proper coverage structure for risk including any policy endorsements and exclusions required, develops proposed rating, and applies schedule credits/debits within company guidelines. Makes underwriting decisions on routine insurance risks and refers risks outside underwriting authority to appropriate referral underwriting resource, as appropriate. QUOTING: Prepares and delivers quotes to agents within underwriting authority or with proper referral underwriting approval, as appropriate. Resolves outstanding concerns with agent, answers questions, and may negotiate changes, as appropriate. Explains commercial coverage to agents and/or brokers. Ensures the terms and conditions of the quotes are clearly outlined and guides agent through binding process. Manages pending workload to ensure agencies receive excellent service on quotes when needed. QUALITY CONTROL AND REVIEW: Performs quality control inspections of system bound policies, endorsements, and renewal policies. Reviews applications, agency correspondence, and other underwriting information received versus policy to reconcile any discrepancies or errors and to ensure accurate information is contained in policy. Reviews proper rating classification and coding of bound policies using combination of information available in application, loss control inspections, and telephone conversations with agents and brokers. Handles problems and takes appropriate action on unusual discrepancies. Initiates policy changes and takes underwriting actions as appropriate within underwriting authority including cancellation or non-renewal. THIRD PARTY DATA: Utilizes third party tools, data, and services to enable better underwriting decisions, improve accuracy of rating/exposure information, and produce better underwriting results. QUALITY ASSURANCE AND TESTING: Participates in the testing of rating, quoting, policy administration, and other software as required including the completion of assigned test cases within designated time frame.
