About The Position

Nexio is looking for an Underwriter to join our team! This person will play a key role in the merchant onboarding process by evaluating, researching, and determining a merchant’s level of risk. An Underwriter decides whether a merchant account should be approved and verifies a merchant’s identity through various security processes. Requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort working cross-functionally
• High proficiency in computer systems and ability to learn third-party underwriting tools
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines
• Comfortable reviewing business metrics and evaluating risk in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

• Payments industry experience is a plus, including familiarity with Agreement Express, TSYS, or First Data

Responsibilities

• Collect accurate information to assess the risk level of potential merchants
• Review and underwrite merchant applications to ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant
• Perform identity verification and KYC/security checks, including merchant security calls
• Analyze processing history, financial statements, and business metrics to evaluate underwriting risk
• Request additional documentation as needed to meet CMS, bank, and regulatory requirements
• Compile merchant documentation into complete underwriting packages for sponsoring banks
• Communicate with sales agents and other stakeholders to resolve pending applications
• Submit approved accounts for boarding and assist with setup in systems such as TSYS or First Data (Fiserv)
• Support audits and collaborate with Compliance/Risk teams to meet ongoing bank requirements
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current on underwriting policies, card brand rules, and regulatory standards
