Underwriter Job Summary Preferred location would be NJ, PA, MA, VA or Chicago area. Summary Responsible for review and analysis of underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of primary liability business under direct supervision within the Small Business Habitational department. Continues training and educational activities to build underwriting knowledge base. Manages wholesale broker relationships through continued customer service and marketing activities. Collaborates with colleagues to achieve departmental goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of underwriting experience or equivalent training program, with exposure to habitational risk beneficial
  • Possesses strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a renewal book.
  • Proficient in software needed to succeed in department.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing or having insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, CRIS, etc. a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Works with manager/mentor to meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the department.
  • Builds skills to make independent underwriting decisions and maintain proper file documentation.
  • Works within assigned letter of authority.
  • Develops knowledge of department products and services.
  • Gain analytical and strategic decision-making skills by working closely with mentor.
  • Participates in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base.
  • May participate in projects.
  • Effectively displays ability to build and foster wholesale broker relationships through marketing activities.
  • Manages assigned territory, wholesale brokers, and accounts.
  • Travel required.
  • Expected quarterly
