About The Position

At Trustco Bank, we’re seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Residential Underwriter to champion our mortgage lending initiatives. As a key player in our dynamic team, you will meticulously evaluate loan applications, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and sound financial judgment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher in a business-related field preferred.
  • Proven underwriting experience, coupled with excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently within strict deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
  • Access to reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Thorough Evaluation: Scrutinize all loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Financial Analysis: Assess borrower’s cash flow, creditworthiness, and financial stability by reviewing financial statements, credit reports, and relevant ratios.
  • Property Appraisal Review: Ensure valuations meet bank policies, guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Timely Decision-Making: Maintain efficient underwriting processes to deliver prompt loan decisions, balancing speed with precision.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with federal and state regulations impacting lending practices, ensuring all underwriting activities are compliant.
  • Product Knowledge: Keep abreast of evolving loan products and origination requirements to provide expert evaluations.
  • Income Verification: Utilize advanced calculator skills to validate income and supporting documentation accurately.
  • Continuous communication with loan processors and the Closing Department.
