About The Position

The Underwriter plays a crucial role in our Consumer Lending Department by assessing the creditworthiness of loan applicants and deciding whether to approve or deny a variety of loans under the loan authority. Their work is instrumental in maintaining BrightStar's risk tolerance. Operating within the established strategy and delegated authority, this position is key to generating a profitable portfolio. In addition, the Underwriter contributes to our business growth through cross-selling, offering an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of similar or related experience.
  • Knowledge of underwriting to include, but not limited to, vehicles, personal loans, recreational vehicles, credit cards, and small business lending.
  • Knowledge of MeridianLink Systems preferred.
  • (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
  • Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation.
  • Discussions involve greater confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
  • Every employee must uphold the credit union's compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures.
  • Specific functions within B.S.C.U. will consider awareness of unusual or suspicious activity relevant to the department.
  • In addition to any other assigned training courses, online B.S.A. and O.F.A.C. courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and Compliance Department.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, U.S.A. Patriot Act, O.F.A.C., Fair Lending, and Credit Card Act.
