About The Position

The Underwriter position at A&D Mortgage involves reviewing and analyzing loan applications to ensure compliance with federal, state, and investor requirements. The role is crucial in making sound underwriting decisions while maintaining company standards and providing exceptional customer service. The Underwriter will utilize various tools and guidelines to combat fraudulent activity and ensure quality loan decisions, contributing to the company's goal of becoming a nationwide mortgage lender.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of FANNIE / FREDDIE guidelines is a must.
  • Experience in Wholesale / Correspondent lending is preferred.
  • Non-QM and VA experience are preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Expert knowledge of conventional and/or government loan underwriting and selling guidelines (e.g., Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, etc.).
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated underwriting systems such as Desktop Underwriter (DU).
  • Ability to positively project the company and department.

Responsibilities

  • Review all items and conditions provided by borrowers to ensure they meet required guidelines using internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and investor requirements by reviewing applications and pertinent disclosures.
  • Monitor the property appraisal process to ensure accurate property value presentation.
  • Analyze documentation such as credit, income, assets, and appraisals to make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Identify risk issues and potential misrepresentation in loan applications.
  • Classify and organize documentation properly.
  • Make quality underwriting decisions while maintaining company turn-time expectations.
  • Review and clear conditions on all loans to ensure a complete loan package prior to closing.
  • Utilize proprietary and online tools to combat fraudulent activity and ensure quality loan decisions.
  • Rework loans to new terms and identify additional conditions as needed.
  • Provide quick and accurate answers on multiple loan project guidelines.
  • Engage strategies to resolve escalated customer issues and concerns.
  • Suggest improvement opportunities to management regarding the underwriting environment.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide analytical support and counseling advice to management.
