Underwriter, Cyber & Technology - Middle Market The Underwriter, Cyber & Technology will act within established guidelines, market, analyze, review, evaluate and monitor new and renewal accounts of all programs, exercise independent judgment in processing accounts, and manage underwriting activities. Candidate Profile The Underwriter, Cyber & Technology will be an early‑career underwriting professional with foundational experience in Commercial Insurance and a strong interest in developing expertise across Cyber, Technology E&O, and Media & Entertainment risks. The role will support the underwriting of Middle Market accounts (revenues up to ~$100M–$2B) while building technical knowledge within a top‑tier Commercial Insurance Carrier. Candidates will have initial exposure to the underwriting life cycle, including submission intake, underwriting analysis, preparation of indications and quotations, and ongoing portfolio support. Experience working with retail brokers within the Cyber and Technology space, or a demonstrated aptitude for broker interaction and relationship development, is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior underwriters and contribute to the growth of the AXIS Cyber & Technology portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to build technical underwriting skills while supporting broader strategic and underwriting initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 0–1 year of experience in Commercial Insurance, with exposure to Cyber and/or Technology E&O underwriting preferred; experience supporting Middle Market accounts is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate effectively with teammates, and take initiative in a fast‑paced underwriting environment.
  • Foundational understanding of underwriting performance metrics and financial concepts, with the ability to support portfolio monitoring and profitability under the guidance of senior underwriters.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; negotiation skills to be developed through on‑the‑job experience.
  • General knowledge of cyber risk concepts, insurance products, and market trends, with a strong interest in deepening technical expertise.
  • Exposure to, or interest in learning about, retail cyber broker distribution channels and broker relationship management.

  • Professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, CISSP, CompTIA Security+) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Eastern Zone for Middle Market Accounts, which consists of clients with $100M-$2B revenues, develop strong relationships with key distribution partners while representing the AXIS brand, and deliver on strategic direction ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Risk Assessments: Ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments of cyber and technology risk exposures for clients with $100M-$2B revenues, utilizing advanced analytical tools and methodologies and making determinations of terms & conditions.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor and analyze market trends, emerging cyber threats and regulatory changes to inform underwriting decisions and go-forward strategies.
  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with brokers, clients, and stakeholders to understand their needs and provide tailored cyber insurance solutions and meet frequently with key strategic brokers.
  • Portfolio Management: Closely manage and monitor a personal book of business, ensuring financial targets are met and implementing strategies to optimize profitability.
  • Training & Development: Be a self-motivator for ongoing technical development, foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, and be a "Culture Champion" for the AXIS values.
  • Compliance: Ensure all underwriting activities comply with regulatory requirements and company policies, and support underwriting audits when required.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Middle Market Accounts North America, Middle Market Accounts underwriting team, and global Axis Cyber colleagues, delivering on a unified approach to underwriting, go-to-market strategy and monitoring of underlying book performance.
  • Product Innovation: In collaboration with underwriting teams and AXIS product managers, develop and refine cyber insurance policy language and endorsements through understanding of market trends and potential ways to differentiate AXIS.
