The Underwater Acoustic Test Engineer is responsible for performing field and laboratory testing of underwater acoustic systems, including sonar, communication devices, and various sensors. This role involves the deployment, calibration, and maintenance of specialized equipment in a variety of marine environments, as well as the analysis of acoustic data to assess system performance. The engineer will support research, development, and system integration efforts.

  • Acoustic system testing: Conduct field and laboratory tests on underwater acoustic equipment, including hydrophones, projectors, and sonar systems.
  • Equipment deployment and maintenance: Safely deploy, operate, and retrieve acoustic systems in test tanks and open-water environments. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
  • Test Automation, Data collection, and analysis: Operate data acquisition systems to collect acoustic data. Process and analyze collected data to assess system performance and compliance with project requirements. Automate for production.
  • Calibration: Execute calibration procedures for acoustic sensors and related instrumentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Technical reporting: Document test procedures, results, and observations in clear and concise technical reports.
  • Collaboration: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing technical support to acoustic engineers, oceanographers, and program managers.
  • Safety compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, particularly when operating equipment in potentially hazardous marine settings.
  • Education: At least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, or a related discipline.
  • Technical experience: Proven experience with laboratory equipment for testing and characterizing underwater acoustic devices. Familiarity with software like MATLAB or LabVIEW is a plus.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues with equipment and data.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to dynamic, fast-paced environments and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Prioritization: "Prioritize tasks and shift focus in response to evolving project timelines and goals".
  • Scheduling: "Coordinate and schedule complex meetings, appointments, and project timelines for multiple stakeholders".
  • Experience with sonar systems, acoustic arrays, and underwater acoustic modeling techniques.
  • Experience in the defense.
  • We offer competitive benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k match, paid time off and family leave, and much more!
