About The Position

Underground Utility Field Technician Job Summary: Provide water system maintenance and repair services while delivering a high level of customer satisfaction. This role involves hands-on fieldwork, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of company products, services, and applications
  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards, including Confined Space and Trenching safety
  • Ability to operate tapping and valve equipment and perform welding
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or
  • 1–3 years of related experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid CDL A license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass operator exam and operate powered industrial equipment
  • McElroy Master Mechanic certification
  • Frequently required to grasp, reach, handle, sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, kneel, crawl, carry, and lift/move up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions safely and remain alert at all times
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color vision
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations
  • Majority of work is performed outdoors
  • Noise levels vary depending on project and location
  • Must pass substance abuse screening

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a positive customer experience and meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Maintain communication with customers to understand and support their needs
  • Install, maintain, and repair water main taps, valve inserts, hydrants, and meters
  • Perform HDPE welding/fusion
  • Complete specialized services as needed
  • Accurately complete daily job cost sheets, invoices, and routine paperwork
  • Maintain required certifications and complete all DOT-related documentation
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local driving laws, including DOT, FMCSA and OSHA regulations
  • Use GPS, read maps, and follow directions effectively
  • Provide backup support to Meter Readers as needed
