As our Pipe Crew/Construction miner, you will be building and repairing underground mine infrastructure such as metal paste line systems, with secondary work for Construction and Support crews. You will install dywidag anchors, paste pipe, utilities and perform other general construction activities. Every day you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You'll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, your equipment, and then the preparation of your tasks. To thrive in this role, you must be able to troubleshoot and maintain mechanical and hydraulic systems as well as be proficient in welding and fabricating. We're on a remote island; you must know how to work independently. The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquarters in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Every hire is provided with MSHA training in the first 4 days of the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well. Apply your mechanical aptitude in operating and maintaining trucks, utility vehicles, loaders, and supporting equipment. Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not Juneau based. Our department has different crews and rosters; this position would be a straight night shift 14 on and 14 off. You'll be below ground doing workplace inspections every shift. Then, we'll rely on you to prioritize your work before you get started. You'll pass a background screening for ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms). Safety is important. POSITION SUMMARY Install, inspect, and repair paste lines in the underground mine. Paste line work includes installation/repair of bracing and brackets following established procedures and guidelines. Installation of ground anchor bolts, such as dywidags, using a jackleg/stoper drill as needed. Welding and fabrication of bracing or other construction related work as needed. Cutting and grooving steel pipe. Secondary work will include supporting Construction Crew (dayshift) or Support Crew with tasks such as concrete pours/forming, air door installs/repairs/maintenance, sump/dewatering infrastructure, pump rebuilds, mine utilities, pipe fusing, and fan installations. Inspection of paste lines for proactive maintenance work to reduce failures. Straight night shift due to construction truck availability requires Pipe Crew to work under two alternating Support Shifters with work plans coordinated through Underground General Foremen. Must be able to follow work plans towards objectives to meet critical paste deadlines. Construction/Support Position Summary: Forms and pours concrete work. Sump and dewatering system tasks including valving and pumps. Air door work and bulkhead. Support Crew assistance with utilities, pipe fusing. Assist with replacing older utility lines on main ramps, such as air leaks.
