About The Position

Major Drilling America, Inc. is a leading drilling service company supporting the global mining industry, providing a full range of drilling services. The U.S. Underground Division is seeking an experienced Underground Field Mechanic to support drilling operations from the Salt Lake City, UT shop and various field locations. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining underground drill rigs, support equipment, and light vehicles in both shop and field environments. The position requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, along with the ability to work independently in remote mine locations on a rotational schedule.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • No DUI convictions
  • Fewer than four moving violations in the past three years
  • Proven experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Proven experience working with electrical systems and controls
  • Proven experience working with gasoline and diesel engines
  • Proven experience working with underground drill rigs and ancillary equipment
  • Experience with heavy equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance programs
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex mechanical problems
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent safety awareness
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Detail‑oriented with strong documentation habits
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Capable of handling conflict and challenging field conditions professionally
  • Must be able to work a 20 days on / 10 days off rotation
  • Significant travel required
  • Must be comfortable working underground and in remote mine environments

Nice To Haves

  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain one
  • Welding skills strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work safely and actively promote Major Drilling’s safety culture
  • Comply with all MSHA and OSHA regulations
  • Identify and correct unsafe working conditions
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems using gauges, flow meters, and schematics
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems including PLCs, CANBUS, solenoids, switches, and control systems
  • Repair and maintain underground drill rigs, support equipment, and light vehicles
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections per company standards
  • Prepare parts lists and estimate labor time for repairs and maintenance
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and associated costs
  • Work independently with minimal supervision in field locations
  • Travel frequently to mine sites and remote locations
  • Coordinate occasionally with equipment suppliers and manufacturers
  • Use computers and common software applications for maintenance documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by maintenance or operations management
