About The Position
Under the direction of senior management, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks that include, rough carpentry, installing reinforcing steel, concrete and asphalt work, and building electrical conduit lines, vaults, and maintenance holes for the installation of electrical cables and equipment. Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following: Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards. Determines proper positioning of conduits (depth and spacing) working from information on engineering drawings and blue prints. Encases conduits with concrete. Backfills excavations using slurry as well as flooding and tamping to achieve proper compaction. Excavates for duct lines and electrical vaults. Installs wood and/or hydraulic shoring as needed. Installs conduits to proper spacing and joins conduit ditch. Places temporary and permanent asphalt and concrete paving repairs. Keeps records and makes simple reports relating to time, material and equipment used. Exercises independent judgment in performing designated tasks and modifies procedures where necessary to maintain production. May be required to participate in related divisional cross-training efforts based on operational necessity. Experience and qualifications gained in this cross-training may apply towards promotional opportunities and transfers. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
