This recruitment will be used to fill five (5) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Student Technical Assistant for the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU). Perform work in the Asphalt Materials and Pavements lab in the preparation, instrumentation, testing and cleanup of the testing of asphalt concrete and asphalt materials. Students will perform job duties in the Asphalt Materials and Pavements Lab located on campus. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Critical Thinking, Teamwork, Professionalism.

  • Work in a semi-open environment subject to colder temperatures during the winter, warm and humid conditions in the summer.
  • Work near, but at a safe distance, from dusty and noisy tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other vehicles.
  • Use all manner of common wood and metal shop tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, bolts, hammers, and data collection systems to address project goals.
  • May require sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard.
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program.
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
  • Complete safety training. Protection gear is necessary and provided by the Laboratory.
  • Must be able to lift 25 kg.
