The Center for Teaching Excellence is hiring undergraduate students to serve as teaching consultants. Undergraduate Student Teaching Consultants (USTCs) will draw on their unique perspective as students and learn to communicate this expertise effectively to faculty. USTCs will be trained to consult with UVA instructors this summer and throughout the 2026-2027 academic year. We invite you to learn more about the CTE's teaching consultation services before applying. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Attend a half-day training session on the morning of Wednesday, May 6 (one of the reading days during Finals week) and a full-day training session on Friday, August 21. Consult with individual faculty on designing course syllabi during the CTE’s Summer 2026 Course Design Institute (May 18-22, 2026). Conduct student focus groups and classroom observations and consult individually with instructors during the 2026-2027 academic year (approximately 3-7 consultations per semester, based on your availability and instructor demand; ca. 2.5 hours per consultation). Attend occasional hour-long, check-in meetings throughout the academic year with other student consultants and program facilitators. Attend student-faculty partnership events for continued development and training as schedule allows. COMPENSATION Training hours, regular meetings and consultations will be compensated at $17/hour. Undergrad student wage position for less than 20 hours per week.
