We are seeking two undergraduate student researchers to join a funded environmental research project in Spring–Fall 2026. Students will help investigate how cultural and natural values can be integrated into conservation and restoration projects across Oregon. Environmental groups, state agencies, and Tribes often share similar goals around stewarding land—but approach ecological projects through different lenses. This project explores where Indigenous cultural values and Western ecological priorities align, and how conservation efforts can better incorporate Native perspectives from the start. You will work on the project’s literature review, with focus groups, and case studies (e.g., West Eugene Wetlands, Mt. Hood post-fire restoration). You will gain: Paid research experience in environmental policy, Tribal relations, and interdisciplinary methods Opportunities to work directly with Tribal cultural resource staff and conservation professionals Experience contributing to both academic publications and applied public-facing materials A unique perspective on how cultural and ecological values guide real-world environmental decision-making
