About The Position

The Mechanical Engineering Design internship at Mayo Clinic is designed for undergraduate students pursuing a degree in engineering or a related field. This internship, running from May to December 2025, offers hands-on experience in mechanical engineering within the Mechanical Development Unit, where interns will work on various projects involving CAD design, prototype development, and testing. Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an engineering, management information systems, or technology-related degree program from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of a minimum of four semesters or equivalent instruction toward the degree is required.
  • A GPA of 3.3 or higher is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in CAD design and prototype development.
  • Participate in testing and engineering documentation.
  • Work alongside Mechanical Engineers and other engineering disciplines on assigned projects.
  • Learn the procedures and processes of the Division of Engineering.
  • Complete selected engineering work assignments to reinforce learning and benefit the work unit.
  • Design components and develop project strategies based on user needs and specifications.
  • Evaluate commercial components and assemble prototype systems.
  • Perform design verification and validation, troubleshoot issues, and participate in design reviews.
