The Undergraduate Engineer Internship at Mayo Clinic is designed to provide students with relevant engineering experiences while working in a supportive and innovative environment. Interns will be assigned mentors for guidance and will engage in various engineering tasks that reinforce their learning and contribute to the Division of Engineering. This internship spans approximately eight months, from May to December 2025, and focuses on practical applications in engineering within a multi-disciplinary development context.

  • Learn the procedures and processes of the Division of Engineering and the assigned work unit.
  • Complete selected engineering work assignments to reinforce learning and provide benefit to the work unit.
  • Design components and develop project strategies based on user needs and specifications.
  • Evaluate commercial components and assemble prototype systems.
  • Perform design verification and validation, troubleshooting, and participate in design reviews.
  • Complete all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility.
  • Completed sophomore level coursework in an Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering Bachelor's Degree program.
  • Experience or education in software development.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience in testing at all levels: unit, integration, system, and acceptance.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with project team members, users, and project requesters.
  • Past software development experience, including working on teams.
  • Interest in medical device development.
  • Knowledge of system architecture and design.
  • Experience in embedded software/firmware development.
  • Knowledge of verification and validation processes.
  • Familiarity with signal processing.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML.
  • Competitive compensation at a rate of $27.21/hr.
