The Undergraduate Admissions Counselor at Caltech is a full-time, benefits-eligible position that plays a crucial role in the recruitment and evaluation of candidates for undergraduate admission. This position is integral to the admissions process, requiring the counselor to engage with prospective students and their families, as well as high school counselors and alumni. The counselor will conduct presentations about Caltech's undergraduate life, admissions processes, and financial aid policies, both on campus and at various off-campus venues, including high schools and larger recruitment events. In addition to counseling and presentations, the Undergraduate Admissions Counselor will be responsible for planning and executing a strategic recruitment travel plan. This involves utilizing staff time, budget, and data effectively to target promising candidates for Caltech. The role requires significant travel, estimated at 4-6 weeks during the fall months, which may include out-of-state travel. Building and maintaining relationships with high school counselors, alumni, faculty, and staff is essential for success in this position. The counselor will also be tasked with thoroughly reading and critically evaluating competitive applications, making recommendations for admission decisions, and managing various admissions-related projects as assigned by the Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
