Umbraco Tech Lead Consultant

ClockworkMinneapolis, MN
23dHybrid

About The Position

Clockwork is migrating a website from Kentico to Umbraco and restructuring it into three separate Umbraco sites running on the client’s custom Umbraco infrastructure. We need an experienced Umbraco consultant to join as an embedded hands-on tech lead + developer early in the work, establishing patterns and accelerating delivery, then rolling off before all three sites are complete once the team is confidently executing in Umbraco and .NET. Accessibility is a key requirement, and we want a consultant who treats a11y as a first-class engineering concern from architecture through QA.

Requirements

  • Deep, recent Umbraco implementation experience (architecture, patterns, delivery, troubleshooting).
  • Strong .NET/C# web development experience, with comfort mentoring developers newer to .NET.
  • Experience with CMS migrations (Kentico experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated accessibility delivery experience (WCAG-informed implementation and validation).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in enterprise environments with multiple environments and structured deployment processes.
  • Multi-site implementations and shared component libraries/design systems in CMS contexts.
  • Experience enabling content editors and supporting launch readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership and enablement
  • Lead early architecture and implementation decisions in Umbraco and .NET and establish team standards (structure, patterns, workflows).
  • Pair with Clockwork engineers and coach a team with strong web experience and limited Umbraco and .NET experience.
  • Create pragmatic documentation and examples so the team can continue independently after your ramp-down.
  • Hands-on development
  • Build foundational Umbraco structures (content types, templates, shared components, navigation patterns).
  • Guide and support the migration approach from Kentico, including content mapping and movement strategy.
  • Integrate essential tooling as needed (analytics/tag management, maps, and other client-specific integrations).
  • Accessibility and quality
  • Bake accessibility into components and templates (semantic HTML, keyboard support, focus states, form patterns, ARIA where appropriate).
  • Help define a11y acceptance criteria and testing habits (automated and manual checks) within the team.
  • Operational collaboration
  • Work within client-managed infrastructure, environments, and deployment processes.
  • Help ensure environment parity and release confidence through solid workflows and guardrails.
