Performs all Ultrasound exams. Is knowledgeable in the operation of equipment and the procedure/protocols for producing high quality images to furnish diagnostic information to radiologist.   • Checks the patients' chart or scripts to ensure the exam ordered by the physician matches the requisition received by the department.
  • Uses independent professional judgment to assure exam will clinically evaluate the given diagnosis.
  • Refers discrepancies to radiologist or ordering physician.
  • Prepares the room, equipment, medication and secures supplies needed to perform the exam and maintain a clean and safe environment for the patient.
  • Chooses appropriate transducer and disinfects used medical equipment per policy.
  • Explains the procedure and the function of the equipment to the patient and answers any questions the patient may have.
  • Reviews the medical history prior to starting the procedure and checks patient record for previous pertinent information or procedures.
  • Contacts radiologist when direction is needed and documents appropriate information in the patient record/PACS system.
  • Performs requested US exams of appropriate regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the organization and the reading radiologist.
  • Observes patient during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patients' condition when necessary.
  • Lifts, moves, and transports patients via wheelchair or cart when necessary.
  • Transfers, maintains basic quality assurance issues and recalls images from PACS system.
  • Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots when appropriate.
  • Reports any need for service or repair to appropriate leadership.
  • Participates in ongoing QA/QC and process improvement programs.
  • Assists in providing a safe work environment and is dedicated to providing patient satisfaction.
  • Maintains continuing education credits in compliance with licensing agency.
  • Maintains clinical competency.
  • Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those regarding infection control, hand hygiene, attendance, and appearance.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested.
  • Enrolled in or a graduate of a recognized AMA allied health training program.
  • Must obtain RDMS within twenty-four months of job acceptance.
  • Maintain BLS CPR certification.
  • Completion of an approved ultrasound technology program or successful completion of at least 2 RDMS certifications with graduation of an approved Ultrasound Technology program pending.
