About the position

The position is for a Sonographer at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, which is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week. The schedule includes mid and PM shifts, with responsibilities at both off-site and hospital locations, including rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call duties. The Sonographer will be responsible for determining appropriate imaging techniques, positioning patients, operating advanced ultrasound equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role also involves clerical duties, quality control, and providing instruction to students and new technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate image scan technique and position for patients using immobilization and support devices.
  • Position patients, adjust equipment, and secure immobilization and support devices as needed.
  • Determine appropriate image technique based on anatomy and patient’s condition to obtain quality films.
  • Secure patient history regarding the reason for prescribed tests and record on appropriate forms.
  • Assist radiologists with ultrasound procedures, including advanced and specialty procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff.
  • Maintain supplies and cleanliness for assigned room on a daily basis.
  • Assure accuracy of exams performed and requisitions.
  • Perform clerical duties such as maintaining patient records, answering phones, and scheduling examinations.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment safely as required.
  • Coordinate quality control areas and check ultrasound films for optimal quality.
  • Label ultrasound films according to department quality assurance standards.
  • Prepare sedation/needles as necessary following prescribed procedures.
  • Coordinate the flow of patients into and out of the department.
  • Transport patients as necessary.
  • Check film quality to assure optimal quality and correct labeling.
  • Perform quality control activities and communicate with staff radiologists and other hospital personnel.
  • Prepare ultrasound suite for procedures and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and linen.
  • Provide instruction and orientation to students and new technologists.
  • Provide inservices to staff to ensure technical competence.
  • Participate in problem-solving issues addressing patients, department operations, and employee morale.
  • Maintain positive guest relations and telephone etiquette.
  • Maintain current CPR certification and RDMS certification.
  • Assume leadership role in absence of Senior Tech.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited AMA School of Sonography.
  • 1 year experience as a Sonographer preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIS system.
  • Basic knowledge of RIS systems.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with customers from all levels.
  • Certified by Radiologic Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • CPR certification.
  • New hire must be ARDMS certified within 1 year of hire.
