About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist at Clermont Hospital performs ultrasound procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. This role involves direct patient care, ensuring patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedures, and explaining procedures to patients. The technologist is responsible for obtaining and recording patient history, consent forms, and pertinent information such as lab values. They will document sonographer's impressions and relay findings to the physician, as well as obtain and record images necessary to demonstrate normal and pathological findings. The position requires demonstrating and maintaining clinical competency, particularly with newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The technologist may be required to learn to scan vascular exams, such as venous duplex scans, and must become proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding related technology. Additional duties include participating in performance improvement projects, assisting the department in achieving successful results in audits, participating in the education of students and orientation of new staff, and performing high-level disinfection of probes per joint commission standards. The role also involves using various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy being examined and promoting the hospital's values.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ultrasonography program
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) registry eligible, or Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry eligible
  • Certification/Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

  • Associates, America Medical Association (AMA) allied health training program in Ultrasound
  • Advanced modality registration in Ultrasound Technology by one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (or must obtain within 2 years)
  • 1 year experience as an Ultrasound Tech
  • Customer Service Training: EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Picture archiving communication system (PACS)

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by, and at the request of, a licensed independent practitioner
  • May be required to learn to scan vascular exams i.e., venous duplex scans
  • Performs direct patient care in a compassionate and timely manner
  • Performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis of disease or pathology
  • Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient ID, and related information to assure appropriate procedure is performed
  • Explains procedure to patient; prepares patient for procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable)
  • Ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedure; monitors condition of patient and medical equipment that may be disturbed due to the nature of exam and report changes to patient care services
  • Documents sonographer's impressions and relays findings to physician
  • Obtains and records images necessary to demonstrate normal and pathological findings; documents all pertinent information, e.g., lab values, patient histories
  • Demonstrates and maintains clinical competency particularly related to patients who are: newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric as deemed necessary by designated facility
  • Participates in performance improvement projects
  • Assists department in achieving successful results in all federal and state and local agency audits
  • Participates in the education/instruction of students and the orientation of new staff
  • Performs high-level disinfection probes per joint commission standards
  • Uses various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy being examined
  • Becomes proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding of related technology
