About The Position

Performance of a comprehensive array of sophisticated abdominal, OB/GYNE, and small parts procedures demonstrating the appropriate anatomy under investigation.

Requirements

Graduate of AMA approved School of Ultrasound
2 years experience in ABD
2 years experience in OB
Moderate skills in abdomen, OB and small parts.
Moderate skills in endovaginal and endorectal scanning.
Moderate skills in assisting radiologist with procedures.
Be able to learn venous Doppler under supervision
Eligible for certification in Abd or OB upon hire and registered within 2 years of graduating approved school of Ultrasound.
CPR Certification
COMPETENT LEVEL: Requires good judgment, reliability, responsibility, independent thought and action
Ability and skills to assume temporary leadership role in the absence of the coordinator.
Extreme flexibility in working hours and on-call rotation
Moving of equipment to bedside
Attend on-going in-services to maintain 30 hours accreditation required to satisfy the ARDMS and ACR, standards
Member of professional societies
Read journals for new and upcoming procedures
MINIMUM LEVEL: Must be able to take call on rotation basis
Perform emergency procedures as required
Attend annual in-service on fire safety, infection control to meet department safety requirements
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

Independently provides technically optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnostic, non-invasive assessment of the abdomen, pelvis, pregnancy, small parts.
Assists physicians during other related procedures such as amniocentesis, thoracentesis, biopsies, etc.
Reports any equipment problem to the Department Coordinator in a timely manner.
Under complete supervision, begins the learning process for vascular exams.
Documentation of patient history, and images for analysis and interpretation.
Reviews patient charts for medical information, and explains test procedure to patient in order to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation.
Communicates “STAT” and "Preliminary" reports to physician offices, nursing units, and Emergency Department upon request by Radiologist.
Understands most aspects of PACS System.
Be proficient in most uses of the Radiology Information System.
Correlates current exam data with that from the patient’s prior exams.
Be proficient in the use of "CareConnection".
Ensures a secure and safe patient and work environment.
Cleans, prepares, and sanitizes endocavity transducers for endovaginal and endorectal scanning according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection control standards.
Applies sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination to patients and instruments.
Maintains adequate supplies; i.e., gel, cleaners, cidex, syringes, etc., in ultrasound rooms and informs the Charge Technologist when supplies are depleted.
Is able to assist radiologist with invasive procedures adhering to sterile technique.
Complies with OSHA Standards for infection control.
Keeps work area neat and clean.
Maintains policies for cleaning of equipment including all probes and filters.
Provides technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound Department.
Communicates with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for the patient.
Interacts closely with the Ultrasound Charge Technologist to provide for smooth daily operation of the department.
Attends regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in-services.
Helps in answering telephones, ordering requisitions as needed.
Works as a team member.
Is able to fill in on other shifts as needed.
Demonstrates reliability for attendance and punctuality.
Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility for change.
Responsible for staying abreast of the latest ultrasound developments.
Obtains membership in local, state or national societies.
Attends continuing education seminars.
Maintains professional accreditation.
Must be registered with ARDMS in Abdomen and OB/Gyne and must maintain that accreditation by obtaining the adequate CME's. Must also comply with requirements for ultrasound department accreditation with the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Watches videos and tapes as suggested by the Department Coordinator
Helps maintain department accreditation by following the procedure protocol closely.
Assesses own educational needs and planning.
Implements strategies/learning plan to meet knowledge deficiencies.
