About The Position

The ultrasound technologist performs ultrasound procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by, and at the request of, a licensed independent practitioner. They may be required to learn to scan vascular exams, such as venous duplex scans. This role involves providing direct patient care in a compassionate and timely manner. Under the direction of Radiology leadership, the Ultrasound tech performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures using ultrasound for the diagnosis of disease or pathology. Essential functions include demonstrating knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient ID, and related information to ensure the appropriate procedure is performed. The technologist explains procedures to patients, prepares them by obtaining and recording patient history and consent, and ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during the procedure. They monitor the patient's condition and medical equipment, documenting sonographer's impressions and relaying findings to the physician. The role requires obtaining and recording images necessary to demonstrate normal and pathological findings, documenting all pertinent information (e.g., lab values, patient histories), and maintaining clinical competency, particularly with newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The technologist participates in performance improvement projects, assists the department in achieving successful results in federal, state, and local agency audits, and contributes to the education of students and the orientation of new staff. High-level disinfection of probes per joint commission standards is required. The position necessitates using various ultrasound modalities depending on the anatomy being examined and becoming proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding related technology. The technologist is also expected to demonstrate favorable guest relations and promote the values of the hospital in daily work performance.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ultrasonography program.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry eligible.
  • Certification/Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

Nice To Haves

  • Associates, America Medical Association (AMA) allied health training program in Ultrasound.
  • Advanced modality registration in Ultrasound Technology by one of the following: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (or must obtain within 2 years).
  • 1 year experience as an Ultrasound Tech.
  • Customer Service Training.
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience.
  • Picture archiving communication system (PACS) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patient for procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable).
  • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedure.
  • Monitor condition of patient and medical equipment that may be disturbed due to the nature of exam and report changes to patient care services.
  • Document sonographer's impressions and relay findings to physician.
  • Obtain and record images necessary to demonstrate normal and pathological findings.
  • Document all pertinent information, e.g., lab values, patient histories.
  • Demonstrate and maintain clinical competency particularly related to patients who are: newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric as deemed necessary by designated facility.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects.
  • Assist department in achieving successful results in all federal and state and local agency audits.
  • Participate in the education/instruction of students and the orientation of new staff.
  • Perform high-level disinfection probes per joint commission standards.
  • Use various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy being examined.
  • Become proficient in recognizing cross-sectional anatomy and understanding of related technology.
  • Demonstrate favorable guest relations and continue to promote values of the hospital in daily work performance.
  • Perform other related patient care duties.
