The Ultrasound Tech is responsible for operating highly sophisticated equipment to perform a diverse range of non-invasive ultrasound scans on various parts and systems of the body. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Associates degree from an accredited school of Ultrasound/Sonography or completion of an accredited sonography program or Must have a minimum of one of the following a Certificate of Completion of a Hospital base program or Associate’s degree from an accredited school of Radiology Technology. Six months to a year of on the job clinical experience and training. BLS required within 6-12 months after hire. Some positions may require additional certifications. For general ultrasound positions: Technologists are required to be registry eligible or registered ARDMS in OB/GYN and Abdomen (which includes Physics board exam). Upon hiring, registry-eligible technologists must attempt all three registries (Physics, OB/GYN and Abdomen) within nine months of hire and successfully complete all three ARDMS registries (Physics, OB/GYN and Abdomen) within 12 months of hire. For dedicated breast center positions: Technologists are required to be registry eligible or registered ARDMS in Breast (which includes Physics board exam) or registry eligible or registered in Breast Sonography through the ARRT. Upon hiring, registry-eligible technologists must attempt breast registries within 6 months and successfully completed through either the ARDMS (including Physics) or ARRT within 9 months of hire. • Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping in the department • Must demonstrate excellent human relation skills to deal with patients, physicians and other in sometimes difficult or sensitive situation, including verbal and written communication, problem solving and assertiveness • Must have a customer service orientation • Must demonstrate leadership and organization skills including the ability to work independently and take initiative within established procedures • Must demonstrate a positive attitude Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
