About The Position

The Ultrasound department, also known as Sonography, specializes in imaging that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the body’s internal structures. This role involves providing health care services by applying sonic energy to assist in diagnosis, performing sonography procedures, computer processing, and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by a Radiologist or a licensed independent practitioner. The technologist is expected to exercise professional judgment, maintain a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics, and recognize various patient conditions to provide appropriate patient care, ensuring successful completion of exams or procedures. The position covers Obstetric Ultrasound, Abdominal ultrasound, Vascular ultrasound, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. It is a part-time, 10-hour, first shift role within the BHCOR-Radiology Diagnostic department in Corbin, KY.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or equivalent
  • Active registration or eligibility for registration with one of the following: ARRT, ARDMS, RCS
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Must obtain ARDMS certification in Abdomen or Vascular within one (1) year of hire, if not already certified
  • Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association within six (6) months of hire, if not current

Responsibilities

  • Provide health care services by applying sonic energy to assist in diagnosis
  • Perform sonography procedures, computer processing and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by a Radiologist or a licensed independent practitioner
  • Exercise professional judgment in performance of service and maintain a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics
  • Recognize various patient conditions in order to provide appropriate patient care to ensure successful completion of the exam or procedure
  • Produce high-quality diagnostic images
  • Ensure proper archiving in PACS
  • Send images to tele-radiology as needed
  • Prepare and document image releases
  • Participate in peer review and accreditation processes
  • Assist leadership with equipment, software, and maintenance coordination
  • Restock supplies
  • Report equipment or safety issues
  • Help manage inventory and resource needs
  • Stay current on regulatory standards
  • Support EHR updates or workflow changes
  • Verify patient identity and orders
  • Document patient-care events
  • Perform required safety/time-out procedures
  • Follow exam protocols
  • Provide initial interpretations
  • Coordinate patient flow with nursing and transport
  • Monitor patients during exams
  • Assist Radiologists and other providers during procedures
  • Maintain professional conduct
  • Support department workflow
  • Help train students and new employees
  • Follow hospital policies, safety requirements, infection control practices
  • Participate in required trainings and drills
