Job Description: The Ultrasound Technologists performs examinations according to established protocols. The Ultrasound Technologists demonstrates an understanding of human cross sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. The Ultrasound Technologists maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and imaging technique. The Ultrasound Technologists supports the mission of the hospital and department by excellent customer relations skills.
Requirements
- Graduated from accredited US program (required)
- ARDMS or within 1 year of hire date (required)
- Two specialty areas ( i.e. abdomen, vascular, OBGYN) (Breast may be considered specialty by leader) (required)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (required)
Nice To Haves
- 3 years prior ultrasound experience (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification
- Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure
- Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed
- Produces scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy
- Evaluates finished images for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality
- Discusses technical findings with Radiologist
- Ensures examinations are complete to include, Cerner completion and PACS review
- Instructs Radiology Residents and students in the Ultrasound scanning protocols (depending on facility)
- Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures
- Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities
- Assist in quality improvement programs in the department
- Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital
- Takes call as needed
- Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services
- Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure customer expectations are met including flexibility in schedule hours
- Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat and orderly
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
